I have Plex running fairly well on my Ubuntu server, but have run into what appears to be a generic video format issue. I suspect I would have had this same issue on a Windows server - the same error occurs on PlexWeb, Samsung, and iPad. I am currently running 0.9.7.28. When trying to play certain MP4 files, I get the error message “Error: Unsupported video type or invalid file path”. I have a library of videos which I have encoded using various methods over several years.
Make use of Yodot MOV Repair tool in order to fix MP4 video file that shows unsupported file type error on Windows or Mac computer system. Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.1 [jad@dev ffmpeg_new]$ Had a look through the mailing list archives, and havn't spotted much relating to this. Anyone got any ideas how I can get WVP2 working? Not fussed about output format, just need to read the files in.
I am not having any issues with recent encodings from Handbrake which use the M4v container. Prior to that I used Nero Recode to create MP4 containers with AC3 audio – this appears to be the problem combination for Plex, although they play fine on PCH A-110 or Windows Media Player.
I have a few MP4 videos encoded by the same method, but the original audio was AAC, and the MP4 with AAC audio plays in Plex with no issue. Only the MP4 files with AC3 return this error.
This is what the log shows when playing – no errors were listed: Jul 02, 2013 08:53:30 0xa6bedb40 DEBUG - Request: GET /library/metadata/652?checkFiles=1&skipRefresh=1 192.168.3 (9 live) Jul 02, 2013 08:53:30 0xa6bedb40 DEBUG -. checkFiles = 1 Jul 02, 2013 08:53:30 0xa6bedb40 DEBUG -.

I believe I have found the source of my problem - it is the AC3 codec used by Nero back in 2009-2010 (not sure which version). I have a newer MP4 file with AC3 audio which plays fine - when comparing the MediaInfo side-by-side, the audio codec appears to be the only difference. The one that plays fine shows: Codec ID: ac-3 whereas the one that Plex won't play shows: Codec ID: sac3 Codec ID/Info: Made by Nero So, now I have to figure out how to re-encode a bunch of MP4 audio streams. I suspect ffmpeg may be a solution. If anyone has any other suggestions, thanks in advance.
So I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I'm kind of in a panic. I've been using a 1920x1080 Polaroid TV as my monitor since my last one crapped out, and it's worked fine. I've been using the thick olde monitor cables up until now because we didn't have a spare HDMI, which worked for me. Tonight I shut down the PC, went out, and when I came back was greeted to a ig black screen with UNSUPPORTED' on it. I tried safe mode, lowering the resolution and restarting, same thing. So I went and took the HDMI cable we use for our PS3 and it (sort of) worked, except the picture doesn't fit the screen anymore and everything looks like overly sharpened ass.
Tried plugging them both in, and the PC now thinks I have two monitors. But when I switch to the VGA one suddenly everything is fine again.
Only I can now move my mouse off the screen because it thinks I have another monitor beside it. I'm seriously at a loss here, guys.
I plan to get a new monitor soon, but is there any way I can fix this so I can either go back to using my VGA cables, or somehow fix the picture with HDMI? Usually, 'unsupported' means your PC is using a resolution or a refresh rate that you Polaroid cannot use. This can be due to a windows update or a driver update. If your monitor works in safe mode, it means you resolution is wrong in normal bootup. Now that the monitor works in VGA with the two cables, you only need to unplug the HDMI cable for the computer to revert to a single monitor detected. Since your resolution is correct, it should stay where it is and work as before. The HDMI input of your monitor should be perfectly the same as your VGA input.
If not, try lowering the SHARPNESS in your TV/monitor settings. Usually, 'unsupported' means your PC is using a resolution or a refresh rate that you Polaroid cannot use. Unplugging the HDMI or disabling that 'monitor' makes the VGA monitor stop working. Changing the resolution ins afe mode to something low the TV should be able to handle has the same result. Hmm, rather strange.
Are you capable of test the Polaroid with another VGA source, such as a laptop? Or do you have another monitor that works with VGA to test with? Also, is your frequency correct? If the frequency is set over 60hz over VGA in the drivers, the monitor will not work. Though, I strongly suggest using HDMI and lowering the sharpness in the menu if it is too sharp.
Try fiddling with the advanced picture settings of the polaroid if this doesn't work. I did try to use the HDMI, but no settings made it look right. It was either too dark or too sharp.
